Mildara Blass, a cornerstone of Australia's rich viticultural heritage, traces its roots back to 1888 when it was founded by William Benjamin Chaffey and established in Merbein.

The site initially focused on producing sherry and brandy, with its first vintage released in 1891.  By 1937, the "Mildara" brand name was officially adopted.

In the 1950s, under the leadership of winemaker Ron Haselgrove, Mildara expanded into red table wines, marking a significant shift from its fortified wine origins. This evolution continued with the acquisition of a vineyard in Coonawarra in 1955, leading to the establishment of a winery there by 1973. The Coonawarra wines eventually became Mildara's flagship reds.

The 1980s and 1990s were marked by strategic acquisitions, including the purchase of Wolf Blass Wines in 1991. This expansion culminated in the formation of Mildara Blass. In 1996, Foster's Brewing Group acquired Mildara Blass, integrating it into its portfolio. Subsequently, in 2000, Mildara Blass merged with California's Beringer Wine Estates to form Beringer Blass Wine Estates.

Today, the legacy of Mildara Wines continues under the umbrella of Treasury Wine Estates, a global leader in the wine industry.

Throughout its history, Mildara has been associated with numerous brands, including Jamieson's Run, Annie's Lane, and Black Opal. The company has produced a diverse range of wines, from premium reds and whites to sparkling ranges. While specific employment figures are not readily available, the company's extensive operations have contributed significantly to the Australian wine industry.

Mildara Wines' journey from a regional sherry producer to a key player in the global wine market exemplifies the dynamic evolution of Australia's wine industry.
