If you’ve ever looked up at a glider silently carving circles over Mildura and thought “how good would that be?” — this one’s for you.
This Saturday 24 January 2026, the Sunraysia Gliding Club is throwing the hangar doors open for an Open Day / “Gliding in Sunraysia” session from 1:00pm to 5:00pm out at Koorlong. (see map)
And yep… it’s one of those proper Sunraysia experiences that people don’t expect until they get here. Big skies, warm thermals, and that unreal view of our river town and Mallee country from above.

What happens on the day?
The club operates flying most Saturday afternoons, and the public are welcome to come out, meet the pilots, and have a chat with the duty instructor.
On an Open Day like this you can:
Watch the action: launches, gliders lining up, tow plane doing its thing — it’s a great little slice of aviation.
Ask all the questions (and you should): the crew are passionate and happy to talk you through how it all works.
Book an Air Experience Flight if you want to actually get up there (more on that below).
Want to fly? Here’s the go
If you decide to jump in for a flight, you’ll be going up in a modern two-seat glider with a qualified instructor, and you’ll get that famous “silent flight” feeling (plus the kind of views you normally only see in drone shots).
A standard Air Experience Flight is generally around 25 minutes.
Booking tip (important)
The club notes that bookings are essential to avoid disappointment — give them a call on 0493 067 180 (or message the club via facebook).
But, remember: gliding is weather dependent. If the day’s doing weird things (wind, heat, cloud), times can shift a bit — that’s part of the adventure.
Why this is such a Sunraysia flex
There aren’t many places where you can knock off your Saturday errands, then go and soar over Mildura like an eagle — with our patchwork of vineyards, river bends, and wide-open Mallee country laid out beneath you.
It’s local, it’s different, and it’s the kind of story visitors take home and bang on about for months.
