Trentham Waters: Sunraysia’s newest riverside resort

A new kind of holiday escape has landing on the Murray, with Trentham Waters Resort Mildura welcoming its first wave of guests.

Set on the river at Trentham Cliffs (just over the border, but very much “Mildura holiday country”), Trentham Waters is being pitched as a Palm Springs-inspired oasis — a place built for long, warm Sunraysia days, pool time, river time, and that “we’ve got nowhere to be” feeling.

A fresh chapter for Murray River getaways

If you’ve holidayed around Mildura for years, you’ll know the region does classic really well: caravan parks, houseboats, river beaches, wineries, and that laid-back summer rhythm. Trentham Waters looks like it’s aiming to add something different to the mix — a resort-style stay with a strong design vibe, plus proper “keep-the-kids-happy” facilities and boating infrastructure for anyone who plans a holiday around the water.

The project has been years in the making and has had shifting timelines (it was previously slated earlier).

What you can stay in

Trentham Waters is positioning itself as a “something for everyone” kind of place — from couples, to families, to caravanners, to groups doing a river weekend.

Here’s what’s being promoted so far:

  • Architecturally designed villas (1–3 bedrooms) designed around that desert-minimal, holiday-atmosphere styling.
  • River Retreats tucked near the river’s edge, described as private and peaceful, surrounded by native bushland.
  • Drive-through caravan sites, including powered options and some with private ensuites (big win if you’re travelling with kids or staying a few nights).

The big drawcards: pool days, splash days, and river days

If you’re the type who picks accommodation based on what you’ll do between breakfast and dinner, Trentham Waters is leaning hard into “activity without effort”.

Highlights include:

  • A 48-metre lagoon pool and splash park, plus a dedicated kids’ pool with a gentle entry (listed as 30cm at its deepest) for little ones.
  • Riverfront hot tubs (and honestly that tracks for this region).
  • Tennis and pickleball courts, a gym, plus extras like mini golf and a games room mentioned in the resort facilities rundown.
  • Over 5km of walking trails winding through bushland and along the river.

And for the Murray River crowd:

  • A private boat ramp and jetty, plus wash bays, storage, and room for boats and trailers — clearly designed with skiing, wakeboarding, and “boat first, everything else second” holidays in mind.

There’s also a resort restaurant “Kokomo”, with dine-in and delivery to your accommodation (yes please).

Can you visit for the day?

Not everyone staying in Mildura will want to move accommodation — but they might want a taste of the resort vibe. Trentham Waters notes Swim Club Day Passes for visitors on selected days (keep an eye on their socials and updates).

Getting there is easy

One thing Mildura does brilliantly is accessibility: it’s one of the easiest regional “sun getaway” destinations to reach.

Trentham Waters’ is about a 20-minute drive from Mildura Airport (MQL), with Qantas and Rex flights linking Mildura with Melbourne, Sydney and Adelaide (with approximate flight times listed).

If you’re road-tripping, the resort also shares suggested drive routes and times from major cities — very handy for caravaners planning the big loop.

Why this matters for Sunraysia tourism

New accommodation isn’t just “another place to sleep” — it changes what kind of visitors a region can attract, and how long they stay.

With a resort-style offering (pool, splash park, on-site dining) paired with Murray River experiences (boat facilities, trails, hot tubs by the water), Trentham Waters could become one of those “book it for the facilities” destinations — the kind that keeps families in-region for longer, and gives couples a new reason to plan a weekend away.
