Mildura’s old Humpty Dumpty — the egg that became a local icon

If you grew up anywhere near Mildura (or you were a kid dragged around on a family holiday in the 80s or 90s), chances are you remember Humpty Dumpty  — that wonderfully odd, very Sunraysia roadside attraction where a nursery-rhyme egg became the photo stop.

Humpty’s World was run by Lloyd and Glenna Beasy and what I love about that is it wasn’t some faceless corporation, it was a proper family operation that grew over time.

The attraction grew from the Glenoyd Poultry Farm to Humpty’s World 18 years before it closed. The closure  was early 1997. So, as a tourism attraction under the “Humpty’s World” name, you’re looking at about 18 years.

And in true “Mildura tourism” fashion, it was reported at the time that more than 25% of visitors were return visits, including mums bringing their kids back after visiting themselves as children.
That’s how you know it wasn’t just a novelty... it was a memory-maker.

Humpty’s World was peak old-school Sunraysia tourism: a bit quirky, a bit homemade, and totally confident that a giant nursery rhyme egg on a farm could become a must-do stop.

It also sits in that special category of attractions we don’t really build the same way anymore.. family friendly fun that could be visited over and over.
