Direct From the Farmer: A Morning at the Sunraysia Farmers and Makers Market

There are some places that remind you pretty quickly just how good we have it here in Sunraysia, and the Sunraysia Farmers and Makers Market is one of them.

In my latest video, I head down to the market for a wander through the stalls, a chat with one of the organisers, Kylie, and a closer look at the fresh local produce, handmade goods, arts and crafts that make this market such a great showcase of the region.

When you see the colour, quality and freshness sitting on those tables, it does make you ask the question: who needs supermarkets anyway?

Sunraysia is famous for what it grows. Citrus, grapes, vegetables, dried fruit, olives, nuts and all sorts of seasonal produce have helped put this region on the map.

Out and About Sunraysia visits the Sunraysia Farmers and Makers Market.

But the market is more than just fruit and veg. It is also a place where local makers, artists, bakers, growers and small producers get to put their work directly in front of the community.

That is what makes it special. You are not just buying something off a shelf. You are often buying it from the person who grew it, baked it, picked it, packed it, made it or painted it.

The market has a relaxed local feel at Jaycee Park on Hugh King Drive, right near the Mildura riverfront. It is the sort of place where you can grab something fresh, have a chat, find something handmade, and walk away with a better appreciation of just how much talent and produce comes out of our own backyard.

The Sunraysia Farmers and Makers Market is generally held on the first and third Saturday of each month at Jaycee Park, Hugh King Drive, Mildura, from 8am to 12 noon.

It is local, fresh, handmade and proudly Sunraysia. If you have not been for a while, it is well worth getting down there and supporting the people who grow, make and create right here in our region.
