Residents still without power following Mildura’s major electricity outage can now access free shower facilities as part of the support being provided through the city’s Relief Centre.
Mildura Rural City Councillor Glenn Milne has confirmed directly with Out and About Sunraysia that free showers are available for people affected by the outage.
The Relief Centre is operating from the Benetook Room at the Alfred Deakin Centre, on the corner of Deakin Avenue and Twelfth Street, providing a place for residents to get some practical help while electricity remains out across parts of Mildura and surrounding areas.
Along with free shower access, residents can also use the centre to charge phones and other electronic devices, while Council staff are available to provide assistance.
Powercor representatives are also available at the centre, giving residents an opportunity to speak directly with staff about the outage, property inspections and the process involved in restoring electricity.
The outage has left thousands of homes and businesses without power after a vehicle struck a major power pole at Birdwoodton on Monday morning.
Because the incident affected a high-voltage feeder and resulted in abnormal voltage entering parts of the network, Powercor crews are carrying out inspections before individual properties can be safely reconnected.
For people who have now spent an extended period without hot water, the availability of free showers will provide some welcome relief, particularly for families, elderly residents and anyone unable to make other arrangements.
At this stage, Out and About Sunraysia has not received confirmation that meals or food relief are being provided through the Relief Centre, although charging facilities, assistance from Council and Powercor staff, and free showers are now confirmed.
Residents heading to the centre should use the Benetook Room at the Alfred Deakin Centre as their first point of contact.
Out and About Sunraysia will continue to update the community as further services become available or restoration information changes.
