For the first time in around six years, Mildura is set to once again have a direct passenger bus connection with Adelaide.
Monty Express is introducing a Mildura–Adelaide service, restoring a link that disappeared in 2020 when Tambray Coaches ceased operating its long-running route between the two cities.
The return could be particularly welcome for locals who regularly need to travel to Adelaide for specialist medical appointments and treatment.
For those who don't drive, are unable to make the almost 400km trip themselves, or don't have family available to take them, getting to Adelaide can be a major challenge. A direct coach provides another option without having to deal with indirect public transport connections.
Direct service disappeared in 2020
Tambray Coaches had provided Mildura's direct Adelaide connection until 2020, when the impacts of COVID border restrictions and reduced passenger capacity contributed to the service closing.
Despite the close ties between Sunraysia and South Australia, a direct passenger coach between the two cities did not return.
The new Monty Express service will also work in the opposite direction, making it easier for South Australians to visit Mildura and the wider Sunraysia region without driving.
That potentially opens another way for visitors to experience Mildura, the Murray and Darling rivers, Wentworth and other attractions across the region.
After around six years without a direct passenger bus between Mildura and Adelaide, the new service restores a transport connection that has been missing since 2020.
