Mildura's City Heart is set to welcome a major new supermarket, with ALDI expected to open in the former Kmart building in early 2027.
The new store will be located on the corner of Eighth Street and Pine Avenue, with the former Kmart site being redeveloped to accommodate ALDI and other businesses.
Current plans have ALDI opening during the first quarter of 2027, meaning shoppers should see the doors open sometime between January and March if work continues to schedule.
Importantly, the new store won't mean the end of ALDI's existing supermarket on Fifteenth Street.
The City Heart location will become Mildura's second ALDI store, giving the supermarket chain a presence at both ends of the city.
More Than Just ALDI
There's also much more happening at the former Kmart site.
Local developer Dolfen Developments is transforming the building into three separate large tenancies, with ALDI set to become one of the major occupants.
Two other businesses have previously been reported as committed to the redevelopment, although their identities have not yet been publicly revealed.
That means there's still plenty of interest surrounding who the other two tenants will be.
A Boost for the City Heart
For Mildura's CBD, the arrival of a major supermarket is significant.
Kmart's move out of the City Heart left one of the CBD's largest retail buildings available for redevelopment, but the site won't remain that way for long.
Bringing ALDI, along with two other sizeable businesses, into the building should bring regular shoppers back to this part of the CBD and potentially provide a flow-on benefit for surrounding traders.
Mildura City Heart has previously described Kmart's relocation as a catalyst for discussions about new development opportunities and renewal within the city centre.

For now, we know ALDI is coming — and if everything remains on schedule, Mildura shoppers should have an ALDI in the City Heart by early 2027.
