There's something about a good old-fashioned country show, and Cardross is keeping the tradition alive this Saturday, 10 October, with its annual Spring Show and Outdoor Market.
Held at the Cardross Public Hall from 9.30 am to 4 pm, the event brings together everything from flowers, fruit and vegetables to homemade preserves, cooking, photography, arts and crafts.
And there's something you don't see at every country show — snail racing!
It's a bit of fun that adds something different to a traditional country event, with the Cardy Lion Trail also providing entertainment for younger visitors.
A Tradition Going Back Generations
The Cardross Spring Show has a history stretching back generations, with its roots in the district's early farming community.
While plenty has changed around Sunraysia over the years, the show continues to celebrate the skills, produce and community spirit that helped build the district.
The historic Cardross Public Hall, built in 1938, provides the setting for the displays and competitions.
More Than Just a Flower Show
Outside the hall, the market adds another reason to head along, with stalls gathered around the old peppercorn tree.
Food and refreshments are also part of the day, helping support the local community and the volunteers who keep events like this going.
For visitors, it's an opportunity to wander through the displays, browse the stalls and enjoy a little country hospitality.
