If you haven’t been to Ouyen Lake yet, do yourself a favor and put it on the “next road trip” list. It’s one of those places that feels like a bit of a miracle in the middle of the Mallee... a proper community-built recreation lake that’s now a go-to spot for a stroll, a picnic, a fish, a paddle, and these days… even camping.
And it's leveling up again with Lake & Grain Festival — a relaxed, lakeside lunch style event that’s all about great food, live music, and that classic country-town feeling where you’re bumping into mates every five minutes.
First up: here’s my Ouyen Lake video (so you can see the vibe)
Before we talk festival details, if you want a quick look around the lake and what it’s like on the ground, here’s my video:
So what is Lake & Grain?
put simply, it's a a 3-course lunch by the lake with live music, drinks and plenty of great company.
It’s not a “run around and queue up all day” type festival — it’s more:
rock up
settle in
eat well
enjoy the music
watch the Mallee sky do its thing over the water
Honestly… it’s hard to beat.

What makes this one work is the location. Ouyen Lake was built by locals for locals (and visitors), and it’s become a real community hub, the kind of place you can wander around, grab a good photo, let the kids burn energy, and then slide into the long lunch without feeling cramped.
