This Saturday, April 25, communities right across Sunraysia will pause to remember the men and women who have served our country.
If you’re planning to attend an ANZAC Day ceremony, there are a number of services happening across the district, from Mildura through to the surrounds and across the river in Wentworth. I’ve pulled together the key details below to make it a bit easier to work out where you need to be and when.
Mildura
Mildura’s Dawn Service will be held at Henderson Park on Deakin Avenue from 6:10am to 6:30am. Later in the morning, there will be a War Graves Service at Nichols Point War Graves Cemetery, Karadoc Avenue, from 8:30am to 8:50am. The main ANZAC Day March and Service will then take place from 11:00am, with the march assembling on Deakin Avenue and the service centred around Henderson Park.
Red Cliffs
In Red Cliffs, the order of events begins with a muster at the Old Court House at 8:30am, followed by the march at 8:45am, and the service at 9:00am at Barclay Square.
Irymple
For Irymple, the service details currently listed are 8:30am muster at the Lions Club at Henshilwood Park, 8:45am march, and a 9:00am service.
Merbein
In Merbein, the program starts with an 8:30am muster at the RSL in Henshilwood Park, followed by an 8:45am march to Kenny Park, with the service beginning at 9:00am.
Wentworth
Across the river in Wentworth, the Dawn Service will be held at the Wentworth Cenotaph from 6:00am. Later in the morning, the march is set for 10:45am, followed by the main service at 11:00am, again at the Wentworth Cenotaph.
ANZAC Day is always one of the most important dates on the calendar, and whether you head along to a dawn service or a later morning commemoration, it’s a chance to stand with the community and pay respects to those who served and sacrificed.
As always, it’s worth arriving a little early, especially for the dawn services, and dressing warmly because those early starts can still have a decent bite in the air this time of year.
Lest we forget.
