On Sunday, June 28, Club Merbein will host its DIY Big Freeze Event, raising money for FightMND and helping shine a light on motor neurone disease.
The day kicks off from 12pm, with live music, raffles, giveaways, plenty of laughs, and no doubt a few very cold people by the end of it.
Everyone is encouraged to dress in blue to show their support, and there is a bit of extra motivation too... a $200 cash prize is up for grabs for the best blue outfit on the day. So whether you go full Smurf, blue wig, blue face paint, or just raid the wardrobe for anything vaguely icy-looking, it is worth making the effort.
Of course, the big moment will be Club Merbein’s own version of the ice bucket challenge.
A few brave locals are putting their hands up to take the plunge, including Tippa and Riley from the Merbein Football Netball Club, along with Damo, Ben and Dave from River 1467, Club Merbein staff, regulars and a few others who are willing to get absolutely freezing for a good cause.
There will also be raffles running throughout the day, with every ticket helping raise funds for FightMND. It is one of those events where you can have a feed, a drink, a laugh, catch up with a few people, and know your money is going somewhere worthwhile.
Motor neurone disease is a cruel beast, and events like this help keep the fight going. It is also a good reminder of what local clubs do best - bring people together, have a bit of fun, and support something bigger than themselves.
So grab something blue, head down to Club Merbein from 12pm on Sunday, June 28, and help them freeze out MND.
It might be cold for the people taking the plunge, but the cause is a warm one.
