Hattah-Kulkyne National Park to Close for Weekend Goat Control Operation

Hattah-Kulkyne National Park

Planning a trip to Hattah-Kulkyne National Park next weekend? Visitors will need to make alternative arrangements, with the popular national park set to close sections for two days while Parks Victoria carries out a feral goat control operation.

Parks Victoria has confirmed the park will be closed on Saturday 14 and Sunday 15 November 2026 while a pest animal conservation program targeting goats is undertaken using firearms.

The closure is being implemented for public safety, with signs to be placed at the main entrances to the national park.

Lake Hattah and Lake Mournpall Campgrounds Closed

Campers should be aware that both the Lake Hattah and Lake Mournpall campgrounds will close from Friday 13 November through to Sunday 15 November.

Anyone planning to camp at either location over that weekend will need to change their plans.

Important closure dates
  • Friday 13 November: Lake Hattah and Lake Mournpall campgrounds closed.
  • Saturday 14 November: Hattah-Kulkyne National Park closed.
  • Sunday 15 November: Hattah-Kulkyne National Park closed.

Murray River Camping Still Available

There is some good news for those hoping to spend the weekend along the Murray River.

The neighbouring Murray-Kulkyne Park will remain open, including camping areas along the river bends.

However, Parks Victoria is reminding visitors staying in Murray-Kulkyne Park not to cross River Track into Hattah-Kulkyne National Park during the closure.

The restriction is particularly important because firearms will be used during the pest animal control operation.

Other Track Closures Remain in Place

Visitors should also be aware that Raak Track and Goosefoot Track remain closed due to fire impacts.

Separate environmental works are continuing in the northern section of Hattah-Kulkyne National Park as part of the Victorian Murray Floodplain Restoration Project.

Those works are expected to continue through December 2026 and may involve temporary track closures, restricted access and increased heavy vehicle movements.

With several changes affecting access to the park, it's worth checking the latest information before heading out.
